Annual Wreath Project ~ Sacramento Valley National Cemetery

Subtitle - Honoring Our Fallen

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to, and including my life."   That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.  --Author Unknown

Our mission is to secure donations to purchase wreaths, ensuring that each grave site at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery is recognized and honored during the holiday season.

We are also concentrating on raising awareness of this project and encouraging other civic groups, organizations and individuals to join in this effort each year, for this and other cemeteries.

**SVNC Wreath Placement Event: Saturday, December 12th, starting at 8:00 AM, goes on rain or shine.  This is a public event and all ages are sign up required!

Having to adhere to the group restrictions, the morning program that typically precedes the wreath placement has been cancelled for this year.  Instead, volunteers are welcome to visit SVNC on Saturday, December 12th, to assist with scheduled placements starting at 8 AM, that will be ongoing throughout the day, until all are placed.  Plans are being prepared to allow for spacing out volunteers during the day to keep everyone safe and volunteers are reminded to wear masks and to carpool.  Staff will be directing parking within the cemetery and plan updates will be posted on our Facebook page: Wreath Project (Sacramento Valley National Cemetery).  You are encouraged to check back here frequently and check the FB page.  You may want to join the email group ([email protected]) for event information and year-round updates as well.

**Following the wreath placement, volunteers are also needed to help transfer the cardboard to dumpsters on-site.  All the cardboard is stacked near the road and volunteers and pick ups are needed to haul to dumpsters.  Hauling can start once the crowd thins out and the roads are clearing.  Cemetery staff there will be point of contact if you have any questions.

**Volunteers needed to pick up wreaths for disposal on-site, Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 @ 7:30 AM

Volunteers may bring a pole or dowel to work in pairs and string wreaths on them for easy pick up.  Wreaths are hauled out to the curb and picked up by garbage trucks.  Volunteers of all ages are welcome and this usually takes 90 minutes or so; no sign-up required...just show up!

To sign-up for our email group and keep current with events and volunteer needs at SVNC, send an email to [email protected].
